Klister is a special wax used in warm conditions. Klister, like kick wax, is applied to the kick zone. It's a sticky goo that squeezes out of a tube, like toothpaste. Like warm temperature waxes, it's messy. Fresh falling snow, especially around zero Celsius, is the most challenging situation for kick waxing.

You'll need a solvent to clean up afterwards. Be warned, it's messy to work with. Glide Wax for Your Skis Glide wax is applied to those portions of the ski in front and behind the kick zone. Grip is initially good but then vanishes. This can happen if the snow crystals are sharp and your wax is a bit too soft for the day. Crystals of snow penetrate your grip wax and get caught in the wax forming a layer of ice that will not grip the snow. You will need to rub the wax with the palm of your hand to melt and release this ice.

This also keeps the application smooth. Klisters tend to be applied in single layers by dabbing them onto the ski straight out of the tube. The klister is heated using an iron, heat gun or torch and then smoothed out on the base using an iron or fingers. With all kick wax applications, it is important to keep the wax as smooth as possible.
